03-10-2013 05:26 PM Band saw oiler
After years of spending time sitting by my little band saw with an oilcan lubricating the blade I finally came up with an inexpensive way to lube the blade. I started with an old paint gun reservoir and taped the bottom with a pipe thread. Next I added a old sink hose to run it down to a magnetic base oiler nozzle. I then stole a cookie sheet from my wife (she doesnt bake many cookies anyway) I add some 3/8 pipe thread flanges and sandwiched the cookie sheet between them. The top flange I cut some slots in to allow the oil to flow through. I then drilled a hole through the center of the flanges and added a nipple to the bottom flange. I took a piece of Scotch brite pad cut a hole in the middle and secured it to the top flange as a chip filter. I pushed the piece of the hole down in the top flange to a point below as a secondary filter. I drilled a hole in the band saws shelf and placed the cookie sheet in the hole. I then placed a 1 quart oil bottle under the shelf with the nipple in side. I later added an IV pole to hang the reservoir. The operation is simple, just take the oil bottle out pour the oil into the reservoir and replace the bottle adjust the flow and start the saw.

03-10-2013 05:23 PM Cab rebuld cont. Bearclaw Latches
Ok Im ready to install the latch bolts. The first problem was that the flat part of my door jams were not as wide as my bearclaw latch blot plates so I needed to cut down the plates as well as the nuts inside. I clamped the plates in my bandsaw and cut about a off each side to make them fit. After I cut down the plates and bolts I took pieces of what I cut off and welded on each side to hold the nuts in place.

While I have the cab up on its nose I noticed that there was a rather large gap between the cab skin and the cab floor. (Im not sure but I think that when these cabs were built that they may have used an older style floor with a newer style cab skin.) The gap is so big I can get my hand with a glove on into it. I made a cardboard template to cover the hole. I then transferred it to some body steel and added about extra to add a lip on it. I went back to my trusty crescent wrench and my shrinker to form a lip on it to help seal against the cab skin. I will install these after I get the cab back on its bottom.

When I got the newer style door jams I also got a steel crossover piece that goes between the dash and the cowl from the same vender. After bolting the crossover to the jams I spot welded the cowl to it through the holes where the cowl where it was screwed to the original wooden crossover.

Got the jams tacked and welded in place today. I spot welded the skin to the jams using the existing nail holes. A little more grinding and welding and I should be ready to mount the doors and finish the bear claws with the jam latch bolts.
