02-08-2013 05:08 PM Updating the door latches
Ok I have had the door jams in and out more times then I care to mention. I am planning to install bear claw latches with power locks and actuators, and the jam contacts. So with the jams and door out of the cab what better time to mock these up. I started with the jam contacts. While the jam is fairly smooth the doors were not so I had to make some changes to the door first and then the jam.

One thing that I mind is trying to tighten or even start a bolt when I canít reach the nut. So I bought a bunch of these weld in nuts and Iím putting them every ware.

After welding in the plug and grinding it down I took a smaller hole saw bit and cut a new hole in its proper place. I test fit the tire mount and it donít look too bad, notice the difference in the space to the front of the chrome plate and the front of the cab.

My truck has a front fender spare tire mount. While breaking the cab down I noticed that the hole in the cab was larger than the chrome plate that goes in the hole. I used a hole saw bit to cut a plug to weld in the hole. Since the hole was in a hard to reach, with clamps, so I used another piece of ľĒ scrap and sandwiched the plug in place for welding.

Ok here is how I used these aligning pieces. After installing the jams again I added some bolts, heavy washers and some scrap ľĒ stock with ľĒ holes drilled and tighten everything in place which brought the jam in to near perfect alignment. Iíll weld these all together and fill the gap in later.
