Electric Door Openers.
----------------------------
I figured out why my contractor "BAILED" at the point of having to install the garage doors ...
A buddy and I put up the vertical tacks and assembled the doors.
Oddly, we thought ... the doors were 9 ft, as they should be, but the opening was only 8'6" ... OK ... (scratching heads)
When I installed the horizontal tracks, springs, etc ... the doors opened alright manually.
However ... when it came time to install the door opener track, I just could NOT figure out why there was insufficient room above the tension springs to install the track bracket as per instructions. I couldn't even install it as per the "do it this way if you have limited clearance" instructions!
"Somethings wrong here!" ... I thought and got out the tape measure. My spec had been for a 10' wall ON TOP OF a 6" curb wall ... for a total height of 10'6".
Guess what ... it's 10' on the nose TOTAL!!!
I solved the problem In true hotrodder fashion (or was it "Red Green" fashion? LOL)
I bolted angle iron to the trusses using lag bolts, and then bolted the bracket directly to the face of the it. The angle iron sits 6" out from the wall so that the track and chain to not interfere with the center spring and roller mounting bracket. This method puts the chain track abour a finger's width away from the ceiling ... which JUST provides enough clearance. It sure would have been nice to have that extra 6" of height ... grrr!
Anyway ... it's up and it works! All that remains is to tidy up the wiring and secure it.
