got steering column mounted.not 100% happy with it but looks good.thought column should go past the firewall a bit more.the ball sits just off the bottom of the column, thought more of the shroud should stick through.put engine and trans in place now also.have to figure out shift linkage and rest of steering linkage but at least have some progress.
I was concerned about the steering column before.called Don at Streetrod Corner and he came over last nite and we test fitted the column in the 39.other than changing the shift linkage piece on the column.it should work.big relief on my part for sure.he said you didn't want the column sticking too far into the engine compartment, would run into interference with manifolds or lining up rest of the steering linkage.I installed the shift lever on the column and put it in place with the column drop to see if it clears the dash and it does.installed the floor mount and put a steering wheel on it.looks good.just have to drill and bolt floor mount then will work on rest of linkage with engine in place.
sold the old snubnosed International, finished stripping the truck in the garage and stripped another truck so 2 more gone, the engine is now in the old garage ready to go in the 39.got steering column mounting figured out in the 39.have column for it but its too short.measured as per diagram but they never said there was a difference in measurements between a standard column and a column shift column.bought it last year so have to see if they will work with me on a exchange.hope so,the column was $800.will check today to see if they can help me.don't have another $800 to spend right now.
took flywheel off and put flexplate onto 350 that's going into the 39 chevy.knew I had a reason for buying those chevy flexplates at that auto shop auction a couple of years ago.cab is ready to come off other truck frame.took a 2nd look before I lifted it,found some stuff that needed to be unbolted that I missed the 1st time.bought a new digital camera a little while ago.here is a future project.got it given to me 2 yrs ago.finally went and picked it up this summer.it was my Uncle Roy's truck.engine turns over by hand and the brakes still worked!
