My brother volunteered to help me out on a wonderful Sunday May afternoon in yanking a grease covered 350 out of a rusted old chevy pickup.
The rear brake is rusted up, and we needed to get it into the barn to work on anyway, so we just rednecked it -chained the bumper right to the swingarms of a farm tractor and drug it down!
The beam supporting the trusses in that barn is made from two 2x10's that are held up by 4x6 posts. We screwed a 6x6 across the two 2x10's and threw and old logger's choker chain around it for our lift point. We used a 4 ton come-a-long to lift the engine and trans out as one unit. Came right up and out without a hitch.
A quick tip: for anything you don't need to salvage, a sawzall makes quick work of exhaust and a set of bolt cutters snips right through cables, power steering lines, and transmission cooler lines.
