09-04-2010 05:19 PM Little Progress
I've only made a little progress in the past several months. We've purchased a 69 El Camino for my son that has taken up a lot of my time as has work. Also, I'm to a point where I need to some body work, but I want to get some help since I've never done it before. I've purchased Detroit Speed Engineering mini-tubs and I'll need to either replace a quarter (maybe both), or at least patch them. I'm waiting to get the experts' opinions on which route to take. Here's a pic to show why I think the driver's rear quarter needs replacement.

I also got the rear springs out and the wheel wells cleaned up a bit more. Those wheel wells are so caked with undercoating, it is better for me to take the job on a little bit at a time.

11-08-2009 01:28 AM Broken Bolt Finished
Here's the final pics on the bolt.

Once I welded it in, I removed the bolt and used the grinder to smooth out the weld. After welding in the nut, and grinding it, I painted it with a black rustoleum as a primer to keep it from rusting. I didn't get any pics of the finished and painted fix.

11-08-2009 01:15 AM Broken Bolt Fixed
I know it's been awhile since I've added an entry. I've been distracted by things like making a living to pay the bills. I had a free Saturday today and went to work. Today, I focused on the broken bolt problem and removed the rear springs. I also did a little more clean up on the rear fender wells.

First, I took a torch to the bolt and just cut out the broken bolt and the threads holding it in. I cut the hole large enough to fit a 7/16th nut down in the hole. I put a bolt in the nut so I wouldn't lose the nut down in the hole. Once it was positioned correctly, I welded the nut into the hole.

10-16-2009 06:11 PM Broken Bolt Problem
This is the bolt hole that is supposed to hold the rear, underside of the driver's front fender. When the bolt broke, I drilled it and tried to use a cheap bolt extractor to take out the bolt. The extractor broke and wouldn't come out of the hole. It went downhill from there. I may have to end up cutting the whole area out and welding in a new one. Stay tuned.
