Journals
Just got a 305(14010203) and was looking up the specs and its a large journal. Im not for sure what that means and if its good or bad. My 355 crapped out on me so im down sizing to a 305sbc followed by a 700r4 in my 86 silverado. Thinking im gonna turn her back into a daily driver instead of a gas drinker, any help guys?

All 305's are large journal. It means that it has 2.45" main journals and 2.1" rod journals. Small journals are 2.3" and 2.0" and the last SBC with small journals was built in 1967 (283, 302, and 327), long before the 305 even came about in 1975.
