Look I will try to explain what is happening on the "Indian " blocks or "pontiac" engines if your themostat came out of the engine bent up or broken it is a sure sign of seperator plate damage the water pumps on the pontiac engines has a plate under the water pump that seperates it from the timing cover and directs the waterflow into the block when it rots out it comes apart and destroys the pump and thermostat it then deposits hunks of metal in the radiator and clogs it up if you need one it has been restamped and can be purchased from year one.
