junkyard brake conversion
hello, i am currently restoring a 1966 chevrolet C-10, half ton fleetside, no power brakes, does anyone know what the most economical kit would be for this application, or if a later model chevy truck would have parts to convert over

not compleatly shure but '67-'72 parts would swap in, or '73-'87 I think. all GM 1/2 ton

'71-'72 would be the most direct swap. I think you have to use the later ball joints, and the later tie rod ends are bigger. Some of the aftermarket suppliers (see truck site below) sell a tie rod adapter sleeve so you can use the later outer tie rod end with the smaller inner end.
Later '70s stuff can be used, but more modifications are necessary. Some say it's easier to just swap the whole crossmember, especially if the engine's already out. Something about a couple of frame holes that have to be drilled larger. Watch out for the thin 1" rotors on some of the later ones. Search the www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard site and you'll find a boatload of people who've done the swap. |
