Post Just checked out the '54 chevy...

Well last week I said I was going to check out this http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/1/8/39887318.htm '54 Chevy Belaire. Something came up and I wasnt able to go, but I just got back from checking it out today. I was kinda dissapointed. It had no rust...they got a new engine and new clutch...and powder coated a lot of the exposed parts under the car...it looked good. It's a lot more complete than the pic...plus they have all the trim in a few boxes.

Two things I didnt know before I went to go see it...it had a 254 engine (maybe im off, but it was 2 someting), and it was a manual transmission car. The manual transmission wouldnt be a problem except for the fact that the shifter is on the steering column, so thats kinda weird. I wonder how fast it is during racing. Plus...the 254 engine had to be a 6 cylinder or something...I was kinda dissapoited at how small it was. They want $5k OBO....the body and interior was nice...but I dont know if I wanna shell out $5k...then end up replacing the engine and transmission later on. Oh well.

Sounds kinda steep to me for what it is. I've seen them in real decent shape for $5000.00

sounds like a good deal but only build what you like cuz you are the one going to be turning the wrenches on a chevy..ewe...chevy since you're a newbie build a ford and be happy because .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .............................. ..there is no better sound than a bbf people say a big chev sounds nice but most of them havent been privlaged to be able to hear a big ford making a statement at about 8500rpm going down the 1/4 mile or buzzin down the street but like i said buiold what you like because if you think a big chevy is expensive to build a big ford i about three times more expensive. but most of all have fun and whip an import wanna be and show that little civic whos boss ok!

Please Hunter! This car sounds like a fairly complete restoration! Which is Great if that is your thing BUT, from the sound of things, you want a Hot Rod RIGHT? Think about this, the 5G's that they want for this car directly reflects their investments, new engine, new clutch, new and powdercoated parts, etc..etc..If you are ready to throw these parts on the scrap heap as soon as you buy the car Why pay the price for them? You will not get the performance that you want using any of the stock parts, Anyway! And by changing any part of the drivetrain-- you will need to change it all. I don't mean to sound rude but, you need to put a lot of thought into these things before rushing in blindly! If you wish to build a Hot Rod using 50's sheet metal, go out and find a titled body or better yet, a project that has most of the hard work done already! Lots of people run out of money or interest about the time they find out what the bodywork and paint is going to cost anyway!
