welding
Back to the program.....
What typ of welding???? stick???? When i worked in the weld shop guys would bring me files and screwdrivers to magnetize ( they used them to get chips out of holes on the assembly floor). I would rap the tool with a heavy wire and hook the ground to one end of the wire and the stinger to the other, set the welder to 100 amps DC/SP. hit it twice for about 5 seconds,,,,,, and BAM it was a magnate!!!!!! I actually hadn't done any welding when it happened, but I was using the MIG a couple days before. It doesn't have enough lead to wrap around the table. What I was doing, is cutting some 1" plate with the plasma cutter. Had it cranked to the max of 65a. I would normally use a torch for this, but didn't want to harden the steel because I was going to turn the cuttings.
UPDATE:The magnetisim seems to have left the table, but the hammer and punches will still stick on the wall. Makes it easy to store them, but they look like they haven't shaved for a week. Also, the CD player quit working. |

Jeez That Was Close
Got to thinking about the CD player, so had to check. The breaker for that circuit was tripped. When I reset it, a little wisp of smoke and pop goes the circuit. A piece of steel had pinched the power cord on the side of the table and down on the leg there is a burn on the wire where it was shorting to the leg. Evidently made my own low grade electromagnet. Fortunatly I never got myself included in the circuit. Now all I got to do is figure out how to demagnetize everything.
