The best way I have found for small block chebbies is the factory method.
Engine off # 1 tdc compression stroke(verify it is compression stroke-vital) #2. loosen both rockers on Cyl #1, pick either the intake or exh. valve to start tighten it down slowly while twisting the pushrod. When you feel a slight drag on the pushrod to twisting go 1 more complete turn.#. Do the other valve on this cylinder same way.Now rotate the engine 90 degrees in the normal direction of rotation with a breaker bar and socket. Now cyl. #8 is ready to be done in the same manner as number 1.Another 90 degrees and do cyl#4.90 more and do #3,90 more do #6, 90 degrees more do #5, 90 more do #7, 90 more do #2 and you are done and have rolled the engine over 2 times while adjusting your valves. This method will center the plunger in the lifter and if noise still remains it is not an adjustment problem. |
