Just picked up a 52 dodge any ideas?

My wonderful wife suprised me today with a great birthday fathersday gift. 52 dodge coronet I had been looking at this car for a few months now had her nearly convicted that I should buy it but she was still apprehensive, after a long talk about how its not a good time and not practical etc, she suprised me after I got home from work, low and behold she rented a trailer picked up some help and went and got it for me all without my knowing. If that's not love than nothing is still completely suprised.

My goal for this project is a low slow cruiser for to family to take to shows. What ideas should I consider. It is a 230 flat six and gyromatic, obviously its getting disc brakes, seatbelts, tires suspension, a/c, and in the future a late model v-8 auto overdrive but till then what can I do to the flatty to make it more reliable. Hei ,12volt conv , dif carb. I have extensive knowledge of bodywork, suspension was a bodyman and mechani. For professionally for 8 years and been to.Keri.g as long as I can remember no I'm a ua pipefitter/welder. I just need some good info thanks a bunch.

Sorry for the poor grammar and spelling. I'm still getting used to posting from a phone.

That 218/230 is one of the most reliable engines ever built... gas and go.

The stock suspension is also very good especially for a "low, slow' cruiser as you put it.

Drive the car as-is... don't go crazy changing things until you have some seat time in the car. There are MANY old MOPARS out there in the hands of young hot rodders and they love the flat sixes... especially the 20+ MPG they can deliver.

I worked on these cars when they were less than 10-12 years old. I never remember anyone complaining that they didn't have an HEI, disc brakes or even seat belts!

I am with MOJO on this. That car is so original, it would be dollar foolish to not pursue getting it back into original shape. It is so nice now, you could be really enjoying riding it around in just a few months if you work with what is there.
Perfect parade car, excellent candidate for an all original cruiser. Could easily pickup trophys for all original. If that is the original paint, that car is super nice.
