Just read this and have some Q's

Installing a ring gear

"Typically, the inner circumference of the gear is beveled on one side. This is the side that is installed against the flywheel."

What happens if the gear is set on the opposite side?
Does it cause the starter to tear up the teeth on the ring gear?
I'm trying to find the cause of this. The ring gear didnt appear to be any different on either side so I end up placing it on the wrong side.

How can one tell if the flywheel is warped?
Only by dial indicator?
What's the max allowed?

If I had a tore up ring gear, I would replace it, not just turn it around. Too much hassle to remove the tranny again.

What kind of vehicle is this?
