That's sort fo a PC arguement. I like 'junk yard' 'cause it pisses off the politicians that we are scrounging up parts from cars they proudly had removed form the road and putting them back into service. 'Junk yard' when it refers to car parts is a term of affection, born in the early days of hot rodding.

I worked in a "junk" yard, the boss liked the term wrecking yard. he said a junkyard was where you took scrap metal and cars, he didn't take scrap metal. I like junkyard also, nostalgia thing.

But do these parts have value when you throw a pile over the fence to pick up in the middle of the night???Wait never mind.
Anyway I've allways called it the junkyard. |

If I go back through the bowels of my past, I have specific knowledge of this.
I was arrested when the manager of a company found out that I was taking stuff from his dumpster. It was a high end custom cabinet shop, so it was exotic woods, drawer slides, glass, etc. I would take them home and made interior pieces and some furniture for my house. Spent two days in jail (orange jump suits suck) and finally got out. The outcome of the trial, which lasted one day, was such. The dumpster was not owned by the cabinet shop. The dumpster was not on his property (close, but not on) and anything in anybodys trash is public domain. Thats why cops can dig through your trash with no warrant or recourse. End of story? NO! I spun around and sued this guy, made him personally return all items that were seized by him to my house and in good repair. He paid me for the stuff he broke in anger, and got 3 grand(after lawyer) for defimation of character and undo diress. The entire process took approx. two years. ![]() [ August 03, 2002: Message edited by: Madd Syntst ]
|

Same, has always been a junk yard to me, just the way old' dad brought me up. Besides, what is junk and what isnt is just a point of view. Some peoples junk is what another needs to finish a restoration project.

Wow... this thread is back from the dead (2002). Instead of junkyard, I'm surprised that they aren't using names like "Auto Parts Recycling Center", or "Previously Owned Parts Boutique"... since the prices of used parts seem to be going up all the time, the names are bound to go upmarket too.
