just wanted to say thanks

just wanted top let everyone know that the camaro is finally running and on the road and to say thanks for everyones help.......

do have a couple more questions, i set my timing a 12 degrees btc and the motor didn't like it so i turned the distibutor and now my timing mark on balancer is at roughly the 12 o'clock postion, i also found out my vac advance is not working, will a new advance get the timing where it needs????

second question i have a th-350 tranny hooked up to my 350, when i'm running 55mph the tach is reading 2500, that seems kinda high, is it????? would i be better with a 700-r4, i'm not sure what gears are in the rearend yet( how do you calculate)

2500rpm @55MPH is not high.

What cam did you install in this motor?
You may need to check the accuracy of the timing tab. ( find True TDC #1 cylinder and adjust the timing tab position.)
A cam that is bigger than stock with more lift and duration will need more timing at idle and will need the stock distributor advance curve modified.

if you are sure of the rpm @55mph and sure you were actually going 55MPH ( GPS and or radar is nice) you can calculate the rear gear ratio once you measure the rear tire diameter.

Why not just jack the car up, turn the rear wheels and count how many times the driveshaft turns?

Exactly!

a couple chalk marks on the tires and one on the drive shaft. turn both wheels equally a full turn and count how many times the chalk mark on the drive shaft comes around, thats you'r rear end gearing.

I wager me left wooden leg.... 373s

Poncho62 is right you can mark the drive shaft and and rotate the tire but only if you have posi. example would be 3 and 3/4 turns would be 373 gears. You could also pull the cover (If no tag) and it should be stamped on the ring gear.
