K1500 starter acting weird

The starter in my '95 K1500 ( 305 V8 5spd ) is acting up. I just got the truck on the road after replacing the rear end. sometimes I turn the key and it just spins up and never engages the flywheel. keep turning it and it does the same thing, then turn it back off and retry and it catches and fires up.. I looked at it today, figuring the bendix was gummed up, or it was an old starter... but this starter is brand new ( all stickers still on it and bolts shiny as is the casting looks new ). what would make it do that?

Solenoid is no good or the solenoid/drive is sticking and not throwing the drive out into the flywheel

Advanced, Autozone, Orileys, Pep boys all carry junk. There is a reason their parts are half the price of Napa or Carquest. If you dont mind changing parts 2 or 3 times then stick with them. This is why those palces have virtually no commercial business, Napa and the good independents kick their butt on part quality. They are like the Walmart of parts stores. Everything is made in China. They have bailed me out a couple times because they are always open.

yea. normally I go to Carquest. I'v bought alts from Advance before, because there was a $50 diffrence in price. but I had to go thru 2 1 time, before I got 1 that was good... all Starters I have bought come from carquest..

if I had the paperwork I would get it exchanged on warranty, being it would be free and I have time.. but I'll get a good starter from Carquest.. can't cost much more than $50.

Not very useful when you need to spend 4 -6 hours changing a defective Chinese clutch or some other nightmare part. We buy OEM parts whenever possible except for small easy to change items. Sometimes the labor you save is wroth more than the part price difference.
