There's build up that builds up on inside of distributor cap on my car. It causes check engine light and hesitation. I clean it off and car runs great until build up accumulates on contacts again. I was wondering if I could use dielectric grease on contacts to keep them clean for longer time. Would that work?
I'm guessing they are aluminum, if so then there's not much you can do. Get a cap with brass contacts an that won't happen. That a pretty high voltage arc going between the rotor an contact dielectric grease would last very long.
