The documentory on WWII by Ken Burns. I just got done watching it. Very, very well done. Once again, Ken Burns has shown himself and his team to be possibly the best tellers of history in the world. I was surprised at the amount of footage that I had never seen before and I seek stuff like this out and consider myself fairly educated in history. Truly amazing. I can't wait for the next episode.

Started watching last night's episod (at least the one that played on Wis. Public TV) and got so involved I had to stay up until 12:30 to follow it through to the end. I'll second tfeverfred's positive review.

Interesting that one of the four cities they're focusing on is Waterbury, CT... I'm originally from there (a long time ago).

I've been on a google video kick lately. Lots of wwii documentaries on there.

Been watching about the Bismark, U-boats, German 9th army who was surrounded by the Russians but managed to sneak through the line so they could give themselves up to the Americans instead. Interesting stuff.

Also watched old Hitchcock and Vincent Price movies. House on Haunted Hill is a good one.

Reefer Madness and Plan 9 from Outer Space. Sitting through those was a bit of a chore. Never realised R.M was from the thirties.

Won't have to buy DVDs for a while...

I watched some more tonight, it sure wasn't like the war movies we watched as kids. We sometimes seem to downplay the sacifices made through our history, this show is harsh reality. We lost a lot of lives in that war. Dan

I agree with you totally....I am a Vietnam era vet but every time I have occasion to talk with the WWII vets at the VA hospital I thank them for what they did. I would suggest that anyone make a trip to your local VA hospital and just talk with these guys. Not many of them left........

I'm also a Vietnam era vet. I have watched just about everything PBS has put out on WWII. I didn't like history in school, actually hated it, now I cant get enough. Maybe it the way its presented in the films, or maybe I had a bad attitude during my misspent youth because they wernt teaching about the things I was interested in (hot rod stuff). Again, good job to Ken Burns.

I also have seen just about every thing Ken Burns has produced. All excellent, especially the show called Americas first road trip. That was my all time favorite, I just cant remember the name of the car... a 1903 model something?

Dan. You can catch the episodes again on PBS 18 if you get that in Visalia. They will be rerunning them on Wednesdays. Episode 1 was rerun last Wed.

I was at the VA Thursday and there was a guy that had a WWII cap with his units insignia. All I could think of to say was thank you, then I walked off. I'm sure he's heard that so many times before, but I just felt like I had to.

This is slightly OT
If you are ever in the Chicago area stop in at the Museum of Science and Industry. There is a WWII German U boat that was captured off of the coast of Africa. When captured the Germans were trying to scuttle it. We were able to stop it from sinking. The Nazi's were not told of it's capture for quite some time, and the enigma machine on board helped to dramatically change the war.
It is really cool, if you are into history.

Haven't watched my taped programs yet but my wife just surprised me and bought the companion book.......I'm reading it now. Great book but sorta pricey
