It is a good thing when foreign companies come here to do at least a part of the assembly here on US soil. KIA's aren't bad cars although they are disposible like a bic lighter. Honda has been building in the US for years, The NUMMI plant in fremont has been building toyota trucks here for about the last 17 or 18 years, (maybe more). They keep like 7000 people working at the plant. I think that they do just enough assembly here to keep from paying the import tariffs. I heard that that plant is moving to mexico in a few years though. It is like tides at the beach, some stuff washes in while other stuff washes back out. As far as sharing trannies and motors go, start looking at whole cars. look at a mazda truck and a ford ranger side by side. minivans also start looking amazingly alike when you shave the emblems.
Mazda is owned by Ford, Mazda can be found using ford platforms in the 1970's that I know of. The Ford Courrier ( mini truck ) is the same as the Mazda in the same class ( early B2000's If I remember right ), when my dad needed junk yard parts for his '78 Courrier, he got parts from Mazda's, because the parts were the same and the Courrier was a rarer breed ), he bought everything from an engine, to a door latch for that truck
piss poor excuse, but that's why I bought a mazda protege. cheap on gas, maintenance, and it's reliable. I'm still a ford man. :mwink: a little bit slant eyed one none the less....
It really surprises me to find all these different manufactures using the same components..... I guess it is cheaper to design something using existing parts, as opposed to designing everything from scratch.
not long after daimler and chrysler did their thing, Mercedes announced they were going to release a minivan type job, spittin' image of a chrysler voyager..... but it had mercedes badging.... never found out what engine.....
so now you can buy an amerikan made toyota, honda, hyundai, and soon a kia. did I miss anyone? I wonder how many japanese or otherwise made ford/chevy/dodge's there are? How'd we miss out on that?
I know there are fords made in brazil...
What is the australian ford brand? ford isn't it? duh huh...
NISSAN in tennessee??? only reason i avoided a nissan is because they are owned by renault..... but hell, if it's made in the USA...
which nissans are they making here?
my guess, the titan.
