Kia Ora from New Zealand

Hi, My name is Tariu, but everyone calls me "T". I Live in Feilding, in the Manawatu, New Zealand, which is in Austraslasia. At the moment I m working on my pet project, 1947 Ford Jailbar. For an amateur like myself, Ive had to extend my knowledge in order to restore her to former glory.
Thats why I will value any ideas you may have to share. Signing off for now.......... Mr T

Welcome. Never heard of a Jailbar, must be an exclusive 'Down-under' car. Can you start a Journal and post some pics?

Hey cuz, glad to hear you got a jailbar, ol trux rule I live near Beechworth probably Australia's premier gold - bushranger era tourist town. The town's tow truck is a 48 maple leaf (Canadian) Chev, their RACV (breakdown) units are an FB(60) and an EJ(62) Holden panel van. I run the only M/Benz workshop between Our two largest cities. I have to laugh when a 6 month old E500 comes in on the back of a 48 Chev.
If I had a jailbar I'd reco the sidevalve, put a blower on it and use a 1980 or later Acco as a donor for the p/s, brakes, g/box and 2 spd diff. If it's only a pick up bolt a t700 behind that blown flathead and use late F250 or C2500 4 x 4 brakes and steering, I suspect your roads are as bad as ours so a pass car front graft is bad news.
Ex ambulances can be great donor vehicles, they're well maintained and high spec, good luck.

Yes, Ford and Chev ambo's are full chassis, toyota's and mitsubishi's are way too light duty. If you are thinking chassis swap I'd think again, a sorted jailbar with late susp/steering is a far better option.
Not fair, you get new years eve a couple o hours before me! Good luck.
