kick back

have a 350 sbc with performer rpm heads, cam, intake. Runs well and starts fine but every once in awhile when shutting down it kicks back or desils. the timing is at 14 degrees without vacuume. and total is between 34 36 degrees. what could be causing this and what should the timing be with vacume hooked up? Have accel distributer and coil

Throttle plates are probably too far open. If you lower the plates then you have a slow idle speed. Are the mixture screws responding favorably?

Try running 16-18 intial timing w/o vacuum and then lower the idle back down to where it is now.

It`s likely due to carbon build up, which causes hot spots that get hot enough to make it kick or diesel. Seafoam usually solves the problem. I would set the timing at 12 degree`s before top dead center, and add a adjustable vacuum advance, you`ll have to play with the adjustment to see what it likes while keeping it out of detonation. what we usually do is go up on the timing until it detonates, then back off 2 to 4 degree`s.

As low as it will idle well. 750 to 800 is probably good.

I would look to the idle circuits.
