kicker panels

I'm trying to replace my kicker panels in my '69 Camaro and I'm having trouble getting them in. I can't maneuver the vent into the hole, and the panel over the high beam switch, let alone that skinny part that's suppose to cover the seam on the door. I did break the old one taking them out. So is there a trick to getting them in? Am I suppose to remove the high beam switch, move the carpet out of the way and then try to stick the carpet back in under the panel after I get it screwed in? I just don't know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, start by taking out the switch out and you may have to remove any carpet hold down pieces and the door jamb piece to get the part in. Be patient and remove anything you can in the way to pop it in! Good luck.
