The fact that it never grabbed 3rd gear SHOULD have caught his attention. I've driven many cars where the shifter indications are a little 'off'.
If the RPM at 60 mph in 2nd gear was high enough to put a rod through the pan, he should have seen it coming, surely!!.....what is he freakin brain dead?
