I saw videos of that guy yearS ago when he had a mullet. He needs to bring the mullet back!

I only watched a minute or less and as soon as I saw those scoops being put in the front bumper I had to click it off. They are totally wrong there and not just "taste", I am talking they aren't designed to be mounted there. They are designed for side or top surfaces with the air going over them not smashing into them. They just look stupid as heck there.

I'll watch the rest later a the truck over all does look cool but I had to stop it there right now.

Sorry man brake ducts. Go. In the bumper.

Front brake ducts do go in the front bumper, but the ones they used are designed to be used on the top or side. That narrowed section on the one side is to aid in diverting the air from the flow over the panels. It serves no purpose on a front-facing duct - Those are usually rectangular to allow for a greater inlet surface.

notice they all are formed so the air going from center to the side of the bumper the inlet starts to guide the air in as it passes over the rounded bumper forcing the air from center to the vehicle sides..

I also noticed that all except the last one of your pictures the opening starts wide - that's because of it's placement on bumper means most of the air entering that scoop is coming from straight forward. The long narrow taper is important when the scoop is perpendicular to the airflow. The other scoops you pictured look appropriate for a front bumper installation. Just my opinion.

Nope, the scoops he put there are designed for the top or side surfaces.

These submerged ducts are called NACA ducts. They were invented by NACA, the agency that later became NASA as a high pressure and low drag scoop. The NACA ducts are located in the belly pan right before the rear diffuser and they take in air to keep the lower part of the engine compartment, where the exhaust system is cool even though it is completely covered by the lower diffuser. This keeps things in the engine compartment from getting hot and cooking off.

Brian couldn't have been more right. Not only are those NACA ducts not designed for front air, but they so wrong on the front of that truck. Been a while since I watched these silly tv builder shows though... Are they trying to attract the Honda crowd? The goofy voice of the announcer, music and everything got me about 22 seconds into the video. No thanks.

if your so hung up on the "wrong" duct that they used because they want to also get the import crowd.. you missed the forming of the bumper from NOTHING.. a DIY project, instead of a "open catolog and order it"
sad , cause this truck is a ground up build that most likely will smoke most of our junk.. and they are showing how to build one.. as a diy and cheap..

Like I said, I only watched a little bit and that hit me as stupid, and I still feel that way, those scoops are wrong, period.

But I just watched more of the video and you are absolutely right! The "How to" on that video is EXCELLENT!!! :thumbup:

the scoop being "wrong" is well an opinion.. and everyone has theirs
and once the truck is all black won't look so out of place..
as I'm sure it was a free bee part... and (my guess) was they asked for them from the vendor planning on use in the side scoops in the bed.. but they where scraped there and "needed" to give the vendor air time and the bumper became the spot..
as they pointed out those 2 scoops are 275 clams..

Those scoops being put there is opinion, kinda like if you ran 10 inch wide rims in the front and 4" in the rear, just "opinion". :mwink:

I am the kinda guy that even if they are free, they are wrong.

You can use free stuff, but it still has to be right.
