kit car list web site
I went looking for a Fiat Topolino with working doors and found this site. They have a LONG list of companies who make Kit Cars and bodies. Looks like I'll be at it for a while.

FordMan,
The list/link in your original post is greatly appreciated. Went in my permanent file. |

Yea, thanks Fordman for the link.
It amazes me what some of the companys can try to pawn off as asthetically pleasing kit cars though. Hope no one is building one of these: |

In keeping with what Arrowhead just said, I was amazed at the sheer number of outfits putting out bodies but even more amazed at the number of them that are not, uh, er, my cup of tea.
I've been searched high and low for a "kit" body for a 61-62 vette and even in this huge list...could not find one. (There are a couple outfits that will build you a complete car, but I can't find just the body). It surprises me that many less than spectacular bodies are being produced and sold while a classic like the early 60's vette can not be found. Might have to settle for the earlier 56-57 style for my next project. At least it's available. Which brings up a question. Do auto companies, like Ford or GM, have any "rights" over a body style once they manufacture it or can these glassing outfits steal the design and reproduce the body without any repercussions? |
Your too polite cboy :)

Cboy,
It is my understanding that once the body is out of production then it may be copied. Logos and such are a different matter. I can't remember seeing a 62 vette body either. Actually, the quotes I have gotten for bodies from 57 and 58 cars have been more than what I have found real project examples on ebay and carsonline.com. Here is a link to some corvette body parts that are very reasonable. http://vanacorvette.com/page-indexes/pages38-41.htm Scott |
