Knocking Noise!!!!

Today I heard a terrible knocking sound coming from a cylinders on the passenger side of the engine. In the recent past it seemed to be an exhaust leak coming from the same general (almost exact) area. An "off duty" auto shop owner told me it was obvious to him that it was an exhaust leak. I replaced gaskets and tightened the headers and have tightened the bolts every other day since then (about two weeks ago, their tight now...).

Yesterday I got the timing seemingly just right. Today when I started her up I noticed a very noticeable knocking sound coming from the same area that the exhaust leak was. I have heard the term "knocking and pinging" and it has always seemed like a crappy problem to have, just by the sound of it. I didnt run the engine much at all after that and just did some block sanding for the rest of the day.
Id really (wouldnt we all) like to go back tomorrow with some sort of solution or trial option. Im almost done with my four month daily rebuild, and Its been a while (a week or so, haha) since something like this has come up. Thanks for any info. or suggestions. I'm doing my research too, but ANY info. from other rodders' always helps. Thanks a lot

knock

hi,pull the plug of the cylinder that you think is knocking.if the knock almost goes away, MAYBE,exhaust leak( I never heard a exhaust header knock). if the knock is still there, you either have a bad lower bearing OR a bad wrist pin. then pull a valve cover and remove the pushrods from the suspect cylinder. if the knock lessens,or stops,bearing or wristpin. i once drove a 6 cyl chevy 350 miles with the pushrods out of a cylinder with a bad bearing. (just for everyones info) i had to get home it was an emergency.

After doing some research I am really thinking that it is Spark Knock. There are a lot of reasons for it and The main one being dirty fuel (definately have a dirty gas tank), Overheated (its hot as hell), and overadvanced timing, I just checked my timing gun and it was set at 60 (oops). I have a lot to do tommorrow, cleaning the carb, cleaning the gas tank, set the timing, yadayada....
