Kragens HVLP gun

I was in Kragen today and they have a 4 pc HVLP guns set. It looks identical to HF purple setup. I took the Kragens guns apart and the needle, tip and body look identical to the HF 43430 gun. Any feedback on Kragens paint guns? Pro X One is the brand name.

Here is a link to the setup: http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...tnumber=390213

I like the metal cups on those. Very cheap price. Buy them and let us know how they work!

I have that exact set only it was labeled as Vaper, I believe. Stay away from that unless you can get it for $20 or less. The mini gun actually worked well, as good as my Devilbiss SRI mini gun with a smaller fan.
The big guns, however, are worthless. Both of them had some type of sealant/glue on the threads of the fluid tip where it screws into the brass section of the gun body. The included wrench was no match for it. Luckily a friend had one that was made with stronger metal. When it finally broke the brass section broke lose from the gun body leaving the fluid tip still attached to it. I decided not to try the second gun because the atomization is so poor, they do a terrible job even as a primer gun. I think they recommend about 30 psi and I've tried up to 60 without any noticable improvements. You would be much better off with the Harborfreight gun that everyone likes.
On the metal cups, they are very thin and soft, installing and removing the cover for the cup while holding the gun body will cause the cup to bend right at the bottom where it screws onto the gun.
I wasted over $100 when I bought a set over a year ago.

PS, reading over it let me clarify the fluid tip/brass section. The fluid tip screws into the brass section, the brass section screws into the gun body just ahead of the black ring you see in the picture (behind the aircap).

I have seen that exact same set (Vapor) with that very problem. That is why the fellow brought them over to my place, his wrench broke too and he came over to see if I could get this loose for him. To be fair here the wrench that comes with the 43430 is apt to break also, I broke both of mine the first time I disassembled the guns but they did not appear to have that sealer and once broken loose the first time they are no longer a problem. The cups are as previously described and I would much rather have the plastic cup that comes with the HF gun. Although I now have an IWATA and no longer use the HF gun except for primer I still like that 43430 and can recommend it for the price.

Black66, did you notice how the aircap compared to the HF purple gun? Were the holes the same size and have the same pattern? The aircap should have more of an effect on atomization that the needle or fluid tip.
