Lack of horses of lack of driver?

When Porsche 911 Turbo (current model) and Mercedes S600 (previous model) beats '69 Camaro SS396 (tuned for drag) on 1/4, it's lack of power, or lack of driver skills?

Doc here,

Weight, aerodynamics, Reaction time, ability to put HP to the blacktop, gearing, weather, heat, altitude..

ALL play a role to 1/4 mile times...

So if you want to find fault...the correct statement might be "Car OR CREW skills"... Everybody has a job to do 110% to bring home win tickets..

Doc

Was this a real heads up race, or times posted in a magazine? Also, were these times for totally stock cars?

I saw some pretty impressive 1/4 mile times from a mercedes prepped by a company that specializes in hopping up mercedes. Stock, those S600 cars have a 5.4L v12 with twin turbos , don't they?

Do a comparison between normally aspirated cars and see what happens,

or...

Put a supercharger on that 69 ss camaro and boost it up to 14 psi and see what happens.

Or how about compare new modified import to new modified domestic.

http://www.hennesseyperformance.com/...ance/index.php

10.5 seconds at 153 mph for a twin turbo viper.

Here is a link to a fun place to browse around. Lots of times for all kinds of cars. if you dig a little you can find whether they are stock or not also.
http://www.dragtimes.com/browse.php

Check out the dodge viper page. The fastest viper was running a 440 wedge motor with a tunnel ram and a 250 shot-O-nitrous

That's too funny

It was stock one, 5.9L V12 (previous generation!), naturally aspirated.

Ok so it is the previous one.

Then I see it must have been the driver, I find the online specs for the stock 69 Ss 396 Camaro as 13.87@105 and the 2001 S600 mbz to be 13.9 @ 103

Camaro:

Mbz:

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...benz-s600.html

So for a difference in age of 23 years and a price difference of well over 100,000.00 dollars you get a car that needs smog every 2 years and will make a guy like me look like a drug dealer when I'm driving it around..

And still be slower than the Camaro.

I'd rather have the Camaro. And I don't even like Camaros.

A bit of explaining.
1) Mentioned Camaro features beefed-up suspension, larger tires on back, positraction, some aftermarket 2-speed (!) tranny, non-power steering and minor engine mods like aluminum intake etc.
2) Mentioned race take place in Moscow
3) There was article in local tuner magazine about two mid '70 Camaros also placed in Moscow, which says, that they can't fight against anything modern.

It sounds like propaganda to me, I guess a race between two types of cars could be set up to make one type look bad if that's what they wanted to do. I would not expect anything less than that from a tuner magazine.

Just show them the stock specs from unbiased sources, ( I posted them in those links above) , and let them explain that.

There are alot of things new cars do better, it's all in what you want to do with them.

How about the same race set up by the guys who LIKE Detroit muscle?

What do you think that outcome would be?
