lack of spark

Recently I went to install a waterpump on my 86 F-250 plow truck. I drove it into the garage, and once the job was finished I went to start the vehicle and it won't start. I checked for fuel, its good, then spark, and its gone. So I never undid anything, but I checked connections anyhow, and they are all connected. There was no moisture under the distributor cap since I do live in the midwest and it went from cold to a warm shop, that was not an issue. What may have gone bad. I undid a plug wire and put a plug on there and I get no spark. What went bad, and why? We are scheduled for a snow storm later this week, and I need this truck running by then to clean my driveway and to make money. Help please!!!!!!!!
BTW it has a carb and not EFI, so Duraspark is what we are dealing with.

Make sure the rotor is turning when cranking engine over. Ive had the roll pin on the dizzy shaft shear on my ford and cause the same thing. Ive also had a wire coming off the solenoid break and get lost in the mix of things. Then there is the coil to look at and possibly the pick up coil. But i doubt the pick up coil would be the case.

The rotor turns on the distributor, I then put a spark plug onto the coil wire to test the coil, and I got nothing. I am going to assume that the coil is bad. Any other ideas in case this does not correct the problem? I will put a new coil wire on also.

The coil could be the problem but if your guessing, odds are in favor of a problem with the pickup coil or module.

It was working when you took it apart and now it doesn't have spark. Recheck your work, connections, look for pinched or cut wires. Use the search function on this site for wiring diagrams. I've seen them for the Duraspark system many times before. Diagnose the problem if you can. Check your fuses and fuse links. Make sure you have power to the module.

Thanks for the help on the diagnosis everyone. The problem was the coil. I did buy a cheap coil from O Reilly's and the fit was not perfect, I set a plug on the windshield, turned her over and saw a spark. Installed the plug wire, and she fired right up. Just in time for a supposed snow storm we are getting this weekend. How I appreciate message boards like this.
