I have the choice of some $50 leaf ladder bars from off a 69 something. Or a $75 pair of new caltracs. Which one is easier to install. Which one is more worth the effort? Any advantages over the other.

You gave us no idea what vehicle this is for, but if it's leaf sprung, Calvert will have or make whatever you need. However, you will NOT find a new set of Cal-Trac's for anywhere near $75 (mis-typed?). They are $375 and well worth it!
