late model monte carlo trouble, wont idle right??

hey guys......i got a late model monte here that i am having problems with, it is a 95 monte carlo with a 3.4 V6 that belongs to my brother and im trying to fix it for him since he cant afford a garage to work on it... here's the deal: when it is cold its kinda acting like the choke is sticking, slightly missing wont idle right and likes to rev up and down, sometimes pops back through the top of the air dam.........When the car warms up it runs like a brand new one....no hesitation, no miss, no shake, no ANYTHING! ya cant even hear the thing run.....once it reaches about 170 degrees.....i have already changed the temperature sensor, and the oxygen sensor and it still acts up when its cold what else could cause this to do that? Has any of you guys ever ran into those problems on these 3.4's if so please let me know because the guessing game gets pricey from time to time. Thanks

I remember something from a post over at W-Body.com about a fitting for the brake vacuum line leaking causing all kinds of cold idle issues, once the engine warmed up the idle would smooth out. Don't remember exactly which one it was but this was a very common problem on '95 Z/34's. The fix was to replace it with a fitting off a different year 3.4 IIRC. It's been a couple years so don't take that as gospel my memory isn't all that any more, check into it for yourself but it would be a good place to start looking.

Put a vaccuum guage on it when cold, look for a leaking intake gasket. I had one do the same thing! would leak air at the head when cold throwing off the AFR because this leak was "unmetered" by the computer and off the open loop charts. After a few minutes it would warm up and seal enough for the engine to and computer function fine.

Vacuum or EGR is my guess. Hunting usually means a ummetered air. Are there codes?
