leaf spring help

I have a 57 stude truck I want to replace the rear springs. It has a 8 spring pack and sits the truck too high so with 3 inch lowering blocks puts it where it looks good. My springs measure 48.5 inches eye to eye with a 8 inch drop could I just get the after market springs for a ford or checy truck and weld my own shackle plate if anybody has any ideas I would like very much thanks.

I'd try taking out 4 or 5 of those leafs (if you're not gonna tow or carry a load) and see how it sits. Finding a "new" replacement spring for a 50 yo vehicle won't be easy. My S-10 rides on 3 leafs and I've though about removing another...
