leaking transmission cooler lines

I noticed a transmission leak has begun the other day. It's leaking approx. 1 qt every two days. Upon inspection I discovered that the transmission cooler lines were pressed against each other near the starter area and vibration has finally wore a pinhole in one line.

Should I replace the entire line with new tubing, or can I mend the line with a tube-to-tube compression fitting?

leaking trans line.

Try cutting the leaking line at the leak with a tube cutter then slip rubber hose over the two ends and tighten hose clamps to hold the rubber line in place. Consider this a quick fix, you should consider replacing the entire line.

Hey Harold.
I thought a goat had ate you since its been so long since youve been online. lol
Id replace the line. Save you headaches later on. Grab a set of crows feet and it will help you in the case of the line being hard to get at.
Stop by or call sometime. We got in our new place. HG

You can use compression fittings on the lines. Don't use rubber lines as described. They don't stay on that way. The pressure will blow them right off a smooth piece of tubing, unless you atleast flare it somewhat. That kind of leak has probably been the downfall of more transmissions than any other.

Good idea

Cut the leak out. Usually abot a half an inch of line and then put a 5/16 union on. Bing bang good as new

I ended up putting in the compression union yesterday evening. I'll save the job of routing new lines in for over the weekend. With the hole in the line, the tranny was losing approx. 1 quart per day. From looking at the lines, I would have to assume at one time somebody put a starter on this vehicle and pushed the cooler lines out of the way, but never pulled them back and left them touching each other.
