My initial testing of the AFR gave me pretty good idle numbers too. However be sure you have not got any air leaks on the tube where the o2 sensor is installed. I had a rough time of it with my headers and collector/exhaust pipe. I finally solved the leakage with 2 composite gaskets and one copper gasket and grade 8 bolts, nuts and washers installed very tight. Once I got the leaks closed up I got the AFR to drop to a more likely number 10.9-11.3 initially. Pretty rich and about what I thought. It responds pretty fast now too. It sure is nice to see the AFR change when you turn the idle screw 1/8 turn. The vacuum gage doesn't even twitch until you are already way too rich or lean. In my case about +/- 1/4 turn.

Here is a little side note. I was having trouble getting a good idle and very inconsistent. I took the carb apart and found a cut gasket that didn't leak. The bowl gasket was nearly totally blocking the accelerator pump hole. I carefully opened up the hole in a new gasket to fix this. then the power valve channel restriction had a huge burr on it that nearly blocked one side. Then the idle air bleed on one side was blocked by some very fine grit. Almost like grinding grit. It had an unmarked PV so I changed it to a 6.5 that was supposed to be in it. All this is on a brand new carb. It's not at all unusual according to the Carb Shop where my new blower carbs are coming from. He says he make a good living fixing "new" carbs even in this day of EFI.

Anyway the 'fixed carb idled much better right off the bench. Both idle screws are very effective and my manifold vacuum is up to 14 inches from 12 so that's good too. However I think the motor is sealing up better so this is the cause of better vacuum. I have actually fixed my flat spot and have pretty good throttle response for a carb.

Curious what wide band unit you guys are using, I just bought an Innovate dual channel, haven't set it up yet.

I personally do not have a favorite of wideband tuners. I ended up getting a good deal on an "Altronics O2 alert" this one http://www.jegs.com/p/Altronics/Alt...755478/10002/-1

My original reason for buying it was a great price through a friend, but now that I have it...I honestly feel I would pay the full price for one if this one ever left me (and I don't say that often).

I like how you can set it up to trigger a warning light if you AFR gets beyond where you want it to be. I like how it has a couple of RPM activated switches. It has a spot for EGT, dual sensors (one for each engine bank)..Well, the list goes on and I am happy with it so far (had it a while too).

I was a little concerned it would not get a very accurate reading on this motor due to the fact that I am running zoomies. And really...it's probably not precise, but I figure it's better than nothing. I put one O2 sensor in the pipe to number one and one in the pipe to number eight. That's probably about as accurate as I'm going to get it with zoomies.

I was able to check for air leaks pretty easy being that they are just in one tube, I seal off the end and pressurized it.

When it comes to forced induction...I am a little "punchy" about my AFR. I once melted a relatively high dollar turbo motor I put together by leaning it out under high boost. Nearly 40 pounds of boost and a lean condition made my pistons look as if someone worked them over with a plasma cutter. After that screw up, I have been sure to have a wideband on any forced induction engine that I own.

They sure in the heck cut down the tuning time on ALL cars.

I too have an Innovate but just single channel. One o2 sensor. I can't tune each cyl anyway so I have to just average. I plan on some additional data logging so this one seemed to be able to accept what I want later on.

I agree that tuning the blower has to be easier with these than SOP. I really don't want to bang my new blower on the first hit. I blew one blower right off the TF FC the first day out back in the old days. Really don't want to do that today as it is my $$$ now. haha

I personally have never had a blower blast off on me.

However...back in June of 1987 I sent a Balkamp radiator cap into orbit.

When out in my backyard staring and at the clear night sky, I think I catch a glimps of it every now and then.
