Left front brake drag

1997 Toyota tacoma 4wd.Truck just passed inspection and nowthe left front disc brake is dragging. I can push the pedal and it stops dragging. Why is it dragging? Thanks in advance.

You push the brake pedal and it stops dragging?

This dragging you are speaking of....can you feel it or is it just a dragging noise?

Couple of things....might be the caliper seizing....might be the rubber hose to the wheel is clogging.

If the brakes are truly dragging, this will quickly overheat the rotor and caliper and can cook the bearings, etc. and cause all sorts of expensive damage- so if this is the case, quit driving it!

But what you could be hearing is the brake pad's wear indicator that hits the rotor and causes a hell of a noise. The wear indicators are made to make you see what is going on.

It can be temporarily bent back away from the rotor- but the pads need changing and the rotors checked/turned/replaced ASAP if this is the case.

I agree with cobalt
Also, the backing plate could have seperated from the bonded friction material and is making noise(harmonic vibrations). Or the wheel bearings could be loose enough that the pads are rubbing on the rust ring around the rotor. Good Luck.
