is it legal ?

Hello fellow hotrodders , getting ready for a new project and wondering about a few things . The project is a v-8 swap into an s-10 blazer . and here is the question ....what is the law on this in Texas . if memory serves me right you have to use an engine the same year or newer and if it was fuel injected it has to remain that way . not building a dragster here , its intended use will be my daily driver to and from work. i have outlawed a couple s-10 trucks and skirted them past the law and may do it again (shhhhh) but it would be nice to be legal .
kinda thinking tuned port motor (po boy cant afford LS1 ). any thoughts ?

Not sure about Texas but Missouri has a similar law that says the vehicle MUST have the same size and HP rated motor that it had when it left the factory. Many vehicle inspection stations in Missouri will not even look at it if it has a "non factory" motor. It has something to do with the number of cyl. & HP rating on the title.

well folks im in texas. me and a friend put a 331 with 430 hp in his s-10. it did have to pass emmisions but there was no problem gettin it inspected.theres several of the s-10's around here that have had the swop.ive never heard of any such law in texas. not to say there aint one.i asked at the inspection station near my home about a 454 in a 63 nova. they told me as long as it runs decent and the brakes and all of the lights and wipers work its a go.i could use any engine i want.go ask em. it cant hurt.good luck with it.

No such law in Texas. The clincher is going to be if your in a non attainment county (air quality) as that would make a mandatory emissions test for vehicle inspection.

Lean that sucker out to all heck before going down for emissions if you are in such an area. As for the visual inspection (I hates states that have this, a pet peeve of mine along with places that do not let you pump your own gas) find a "friendly" place that will just sell you a sticker.

Not likely to happen as penalties for such a stunt are quite severe $$$

If you have emissions testing, stop by the liquor store and treat your car to a bottle of everclear to about 4 or 5 gal of gas. Emissions agent will probably take a double take to see if the car is even running.
