Length of Driveshaft

Does anybody know how long of a drive shaft I need for a 1971 chevelle with a 350, turbo 400, and stock rearend??? The few local shops in Buffalo want $100+ to cut. But the real kicker is they cant cut bottleneck drive shafts!!!! I guess they are real hard to re-yolk?!?! But just wondering if anybody has done this I was going to p/u one at a scrap yard and go from there.

It is a problem to shorten those if you end up getting into the larger part of the tube,How much does the shaft need to be shortened? can you take a little off both ends and get the length you want? $100.00 to cut and balance don't seem to far out of line,so if they can cut both ends and get the right length, charge you another 30 or 40,it might be a little cheaper than buying another shaft at a bone yard and having to still get it worked on.

I believe the length you need is 55 1/2 center to center.

My 71 Chevelle used a 55.5" Center to Center driveshaft with the TH350. With the TH400 that is currently in it, I'm using a 54.5" shaft.
