The other day I saw a mint hemi superbird on Ebay for $9500. I questioned what the gimick was to the seller and got an email saying to send 3000 to some foriegn holding company and the rest could be paid on delivery. The next day Ebay sent me a beware of scam email! I was just curious, and knew a scam was on but it was interesting. I guess people will 'piggyback' your eBay id and sell things like that all the time.

I report those to ebay and send the "ask seller a question" a note. Many times the "seller" has hijacked the whole account and is even bold enough to use the hijacked account's Square trade status. But quite often they have a big email address in the listing you are to contact.
Sometimes I jack with them and act interested and act familiar with the listers region. I tell them I am going to be in the area and want to inspect the car. Then guess qhat? It's in London or South America, and the picture is obviously SoCal. Uh, I didn't know you had palm trees in London. Well then they offer to ship it right to my doorstep and a money back guarantee if it doesn't meet my approval. Yeah right. How about ship it here first and then I decide. The thing I don't get is why ebay doesn't get rid of that registered bidder thing, the scammers are the only ones that use it. |
