Lets talk engine advance!

Ok, first of all forgive me for a noob question, we all gotta learn sometime

Now,
I understand that at higher RPM the sparkplug has to fire a bit before TDC........I dont know why so that's why I'm here. I dont understand how this is achieved? What caues the spark plug to fire a bit before TDC? Is it something in the distributor? Bascially I need to know EVERYTHING about engine advance.....thanks

Mike

You need advance because gasoline burns slow. You need the flamefront to achieve it's strongest point just as the piston is passing TDC. In order to time this correctly, the spark has to happen before TDC.

you are correct to, their is a thing in the distributer (weights and springs) that change your advance, thier is also a vacuum can on some distributers that is "fed" from the intake.
