Post Lifter shortage

Did you all know there is a critical world wide shortage of hydraulic valve lifters? Tried to get some for my 235 rebuild and got a royal run-around. seems a major factor back east went out of business. Whodathunkit.

Read on a forum somewhere in the last couple weeks there are only two companies still manufacturing the things. With OEM all having gone roller over the last eight or ten years, maybe the market for flat tappets dried up? Guess we're all gonna havta rock 'n' roll internally too.

yes you guys are finding out about lifter shortages- the major aftermarket lifter manufacturer was Johnson High Lift here in Michigan the bank closed them up early in the year , the other manufacturers will sell only to the O.E.M (new car production) flat tappet lifters are getting hard to get, it seems with the better cams being produced and all the late models having rollers the demand for lifters ain't what it used to be. I'm told there is a facility in Mexico that is gearing up to produce lifters, i hope the quality is better than some of the stuff i've been seeing from there thanks bob

No way, that is so freakin weird. Who woulda freakin thought that so many freakin flat tappet engine builders are making so many engines that use flat tappet lifters. Man it doesn't even seem like that many people are using flat tappet lifters. Thats sso freakin extreme MAN, WHAT If there is no more flat tappet lifters in the world ever again! what will we do! man, i better start stocking up on money so i can buy these valuble gold that we put in our engines. I think i'll make a flat tappet company of my own so i can make some freakin money! KNOW WHAT I MEAN MAAAAAAAAN!

For Willys36, try Jerry Bodwell at Delta Camshaft. www.deltacam.com

He had the lifters I had spent 1 month looking for. He said he had been stocking up heavily on lifters for quite some time because of the shortage. His price was rght on track with the large mail order places also. Hope this helps you, hvyeqpmech.

Well, take heart. It isn't as bad as the toilet paper shortage of the late 60s. Now those were really desparate times!

The lifter shortage will be with us for some time to come. With the closing of Hy-Lift (formerly Johnson Lifters) here in Muskegon, there are only two manufacturers left. As stated in an earlier post, most of their production goes to OEM, OE Service and the big volume customers. Roller lifter production is affected as well. Prepare to pay much more for lifters and watch for junk lifters making their way in from China, India, etc.
