I was in a pull-your-own-parts junkyard yesterday and spotted a 79 Lincoln Mark V with rear discs. I know that some of the Lincoln 9's are popular disc brake swaps, but I don't know the particulars. I looked through the knowledge base and did a forum search, but I got a bit confused trying to make sense of all the info I found. I don't have a use for the rear end myself, but I'd like to know if it's worth dealing with. I tried to figure out the ratio (I couldn't read the tag very well) by counting wheel/driveshaft turns. For 10 turns of the driveshaft I counted about 7 turns of one wheel (the other wheel was on the ground - no LS!) I figure this is a 3.5:1, but I'm not sure. If I can determine that it's worth it, I'll go back and buy the rear end so someone can put it to "productive" use. Thanks!
I know some of the Lincolns are actually 9 3/4 so you should be careful about exactly what your getting because there are no performance parts of the 9 3/4, but then again, why would you need them. I dont recall how to decifer the #s but the metal tag on the diff should have the gear ratio on it. The #s can be a bit confusing.
I dont know what they are worth , I have about 3 of them I collected too! I doubt it has a 351 gear , but its possible. The disc are sought after. I have small bearing and large bearing (ends) axle . Mine the axles have to come out to get part of the brake brackets off , so I suppose the axle bearings have to be pressed off ; I dont like that. you can sell the discs and maybe the rear can be sold to someone that needs one to narrow ; to be cut shorter. Thats what Im thinking . I wouldnt pay over a hundred for it but they are pretty plentiful in this area.
I think I'll let it go. It would cost me about $120, and plus it's over 100 miles from here. Thanks for the replies!
