Lincoln Mark VIII
I think I am going to by myself a Lincoln Mark VIII for my birthday this year. I went and looked at it Saturday and went for a drive in it. It got a little warm and the guy that owns it thinks the thermostat might be sticking. Anyhow he was going to have it fixed and give me a call. It is rated at more horsepower than my Mark VII and I like the car. It sounds like a good summer car to me, I am planning on parking my Jeep this summer so I can get it back up into shape for another winter. I was going to fix the Metro and drive it while I fixed the Crown Vic my wife hit a dear with. Once the Crown was fixed I was planning on selling the Metro since I hate that car, absolutely no power. But if I buy the Mark 8 I will probably still fix the Metro and get rid of it and I might just sell the CV as is.
I grin every time I think of that duel overhead cam V8. |

re: Lincoln Mark VIII
Is that the smaller Mark that kind of looks like a Beemer? If so

re: Lincoln Mark VIII
Nope
Mark VIII was introduced in 93 Kevin, You may be thinking of the Continental that was introduced in 99, to replace the Mark (also a nice car, but too many doors) That Mark is a nice car, my dad had a 98 LSC, got pretty decent gas mileage as well. Wish I had one Too bad Ford decided to replace it with something with too many doors. It all went to hell when they started putting the 'Mark' badge on the Lincoln trucks (MKXLT) MK is a 2-dr coupe since 1956-----56 Lincoln MK I |

re: Lincoln Mark VIII
Bryan, hate to tell you this, but there was a 4 door Mark in 58 and 59. Yep, not many of them, but still seems that nothing but the name stays the same.

Ain't that the truth. A buddy of mine inherited a 72 Mark, not sure if it was a 7 or 8, a beautiful car, low miles, he got an offer he couldn't turn down about 2 years ago, 8 grand, it's gone. Nice looking cars. |

Y'know, I've heard that 350's are cheap. That might solve the "no power" syndrome of the Metro. If you sell the CV, it might provide all that's needed to turn the Metro into a real sleeper. Didn't somebody on here have a Metro funny car? |

re: Lincoln Mark VIII
Dinger,
a 72 would be a Mark IV ---- I believe The rounded 69-70 Marks were III I think! Nevertheless----those were some nice rides in their day |

re: Lincoln Mark VIII
What is the price/year/miles on the Mark you're looking at?
A good forum for some info is http://www.tccoa.com/ Common problems on those are leaky airbag suspension, sagging doors, and blend door failure. The neon 3rd brake light loves to conk out too. On the good side they run practically forever without any issues. The DOHC 4.6L and the independent rear suspension are the same that is used in the Mustang Cobra. Be sure to check that the air conditioning and heater both work before you take it. If that blend door is not working it's a full day job or big $$$$ at a shop to fix. The ride, handling, and power are incredible though. We have a '97 cougar which is basically the same platform (but not nearly as potent) and we love it. You'll be grinning ear to ear for quite a while. |

re: Lincoln Mark VIII
They make great donor cars for hot rods too!!!
And burnouts on demand: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksM947e12-E Not bad for a $250 donor car |

re: Lincoln Mark VIII
my 95 Ford conversion van did that with the temp gauge, and I thought it was the T stat as I changed the coolant every 2 yrs and I had the radiator redone in 98 when the shroud rubbed a hole in the radiator, so I thought it had to be the t stat. it got quick one 100 degree day on the interstate. I seen the gauge climing fast and I shut it down fast. but the radiator needed redone. witch I did. and replaced the t stat, cured my problem.

re: Lincoln Mark VIII
I now have a 1994 Mark VIII sitting in me driveway. I went down and shelled the cash out for it yesterday. It must be a cop magnet, I went into town last night to pick up my wife and son and I got stopped by a youthful town cop. My only complaint so for is the ten disc CD changer in the trunk skips when I hit a big enough bump.
I will get some pictures of it later. |
