line lock

I am an old guy with a 4-speed 350 56 chev.I am trying to learn how to drag race it.I ran it last friday night and sometimes it would roll and cause a redlight.I bought a tci line lock which I haveny received yet.Somebody please explain to me how to work the gas,clutch and the line lock at the same time. thanks proge

Is your dragstrip on a hill?....It shouldn't roll, unless your clutch is grabbing a bit, Check this first.

The linelock holds the front brakes on as long as you are holding the button down....As soon as you release it, they release the brakes. You will need to peactice a bit to release just as you are hitting the gas and releasing the clutch.

Install line lock on front tires, when you stage, hit brake pedal and hit button on line lock, this should hold car still, then you can work gas pedal and clutch separately,don't get in any hurry cause you got a second and a half till green comes on,when you dump clutch(on last yellow bulb), let off button.
Also I think you may be able to hold button down and still hit brake and it will hold. You can experiment on that.
Been many moons since I ran a four speed, on the strip, Glide w/transbrake is the way to go, less breakage.

Line Lock

Hurst makes a T shift handle with a button on the side that I use for my line lock. In the past I rigged a radial arm switch on the clutch arm to engage the line lock when I pushed the clutch down and disengage when I let the clutch up. Since I had no reason to apply the break when I was moving it had no affect when shifting on the track. A second switch turned the line lock off when I was not on the strip. The clutch switch worked fair to okay but the T handle is simple and easy.

if the line lock disengages when you let off the clutch... how did you do a burnout?

Burn out

Second trigger on the counsel for line lock. This was in the seventies before I found the T handle switch and I was just out of high school and afraid of the car. I needed both hands on the wheel, eyeballs like saucers and a knot in my gut. I added the radial switch to my post because I thought it was an odd and unusual way of taking care of the problem. At this point the T handle is much better.

Another problem with the clutch trigger I felt for some reason the line lock did not let go immediately when I launched. It was one of those things I couldn't prove but my 60 was better when I did not use it.
