Lining up fenders & doors

My car is looking a lot like this one by that way it is broke down. My doors were leaning before I took them off & the corners of the fenders on both sides close to the windshield were sticking up a little bit. If the door would have been straight the fenders still would have been too high where they meet the doors. I'm going to install new bushings & pins in the door hinges but I'm sure the fenders will still be too high. How do I fix this when I'm putting everything back together & what is the easiest way to line everything up?

You're going to have to experiment with shims. Shims at the bottom of the fender, where they bolt to the underside of the cowl, will pull a fender down. The radiator support, the cowl, all are important in alignment. An experienced bodyman can help, maybe do some research on panel alignment. I am off to shred brush for my 77 year old buddy or I would do this, maybe later. Good luck. Dan

Here is the "Basics of Basics" on panel alignment for you. Click here

Here is on on rebuilding hinges that may be useful as well. Basics of Basics - Rebuilding hinges

Be sure that after you install new bushings in the hinges that the door lines up as it should. As I remember the hinges on these car where welded to the post and door. If that is the case and the door hangs down at the rear as it usually did. All you can do is get a long 2x4 and put it between the bottom of the door and rocker panel and lift up bending the top hinge mount just a little. Be care-full not to bend the bottom of your door though. They also sell a tool to do this that fits into the door latch but 2x4 will work if your care full. then Align your fender after you know your door fits right.
