Linkage Bushings
I'm having trouble locating the correct shifter bushings for a 4-speed Muncie in my 64 Nova. I bought some Mr Gasket #11 steel bushings, but their too big. I measured the hole in the linkage arm to be 0.380". The new steel bushings measure 0.5" O.D. It's been suggested that I inrease the diameter of the hole but that seems a bit radical to me. The local speed shop said that if the shifter was from the factory, they wouldn't be able to get the correct bushings. I called the Nova supply houses & they were good enough to measure theirs for me; of course they measure 0.50". Any ideas?
Also, the old rubber that is molded to the link arm has to be removed when using the steel bushings correct? Thanks for any/all help. |

Go down to your local hardware store (not HD, or Lowes) like an ACE. Look for some nylon bushings in the nuts & bolts section. You don't need steel ones for normal driving
