Lions Drag Strip, Long Beach

Recently I bought these two videos about the history of Lions Drag Strip.
There is plenty of information well researched and some great footage of old front motored dragsters burning the tires the whole quarter mile plus interviews with those who were there, some sadly gone.
Stockers, Gassers and the birth of A/FX, each vid is two hours long.

They can be found at, Lions The Greatest Drag Strip.
Part III to be released later 2008.

Good memories, first time at Lions was in 1958, they only let them run gas then. Top elim. was Cyr & Hopper, they had just won the '58 nationals with a Chassis Research car and a blown 392...ran 151 mph at around 9.60 e.t. and yep, they all smoked them the entire 1320. $.90 cents to get in a $.50 cents for a pit pass........times have changed.

The third and final disc just plopped into my mailbox, more drag racing history on film.
There is even footage of Garlits online explosion, something I thought did´nt exist.
Read about it here.

I have been asking that question for thirty years. I picked up a fifties magazine around that time that said 160 was as fast as a car could go in the quarter mile without flying, PERIOD. It had mathamatical formulas, charts, discussions with professors and all kinds of stuff explaining how that was it, 160, we were done, it ain't going to get any faster, PERIOD.

When I read it we were doing 225 or so and I thought how foolish is to make a prediction in light of this article.

So I ask, will we be turning the quarter mile in a second? How about 600mph? Maybe!

Brian
