I'm going to do this a little differently. Anyone into investing will tell you a car is almost always a losing venture. Cars are a passion for us, but they don't have to suck us dry. I'll include if mine did or didn't.
1985 Caprice coupe - age 14-23, the original Ghetto Jet. Sold to a very nice drug dealer who does the Atlanta car shows. Bought for $250. Sold for $2200. Broke even actually. 1986 Caprice coupe - 16-19. cammed 350/built 200R4. Sold to brother, drivetrain is in a S10 now, the body went to the crusher. Bought for $200 sold for $2700. Lost atleast $2300 on this car. 1995 Honda accord. 17-present. 353,000 miles. Bought for $270 with 190,000 miles. Thee best car I have and probably will ever own, has saved me thousands, practically everything is original and working, auto/ac/alt/windows/you name it. 1999 SVT Cobra. 20-23. Bought for $12,900 cash, 20k miles. Sold for $11,600 34k 3 years later. Lost about $2300 on this car. Soooo worth it. I also hold one of the fastest stock 1/4 times documented for a 99 Cobra. 2003 SVT Cobra 10th anniversary edition vert 23-present. Bought $16,500 cash. KBB private was 22,000. Owner was almost ready to back out of the sale because he had so many people contact and offer more than he was asking, but I called him first and he honored the agreement. I'm always tempted to sell but I can't. The car is too bad ***. Sold the 99 afterwards. (it was cool having 2 red cobras for a few months!) 2002 Saturn SC2. Bought $900, detailed and sold for $3400. 1998 Jetta Wolfsburg Bought $850, detailed, put $200 in it and sold for $2900. 1996 Passatt VR6 wagon Bought for $1400, detailed, invested $50. sold for $2600. 1998 Cavalier, age 24-25, free. girlfriend drives it now, because her wrangler has no A/C and gas is $4 a gallon. |

2007 Saturn XR. The DD I never wanted, but way too nice to pass up for the price.
1938 Chevy 1/2 ton. The truck I wanted, but could never buy due to the insane original asking price of the one I wanted. So after it disappeared I bought one in from Montana. Odd story I know 1984 S10, with 550k miles, or about 850,000 kms on it. Insanely reliable, this thing along has sold me on GM. 2007 Triumph Daytona 675 sportbike, the Ferrari/Lambo Killer that still gets 60mpg, and costs nothing to own. |

cars i own now(i will jump in to) garrell.770
currently have a bad black, low mile 98 corvette, a badder black 2003, low mile SS silverado truck that i will run the maxton mile with at the end of sept. and my 1939(it is not a rat rod) chevy truck with a built 350, 350 turbo, painted hot rod primer with flames, chrome headers and a chrome old style air scoop. the 39 does not have power steering, brakes, no ac, it is a handful to drive but i love it. deuce, if you are listening you have one year on me. i hope your health has been better than mine the last twenty years, i could have done so much more. i would bore you if i told you about my nascar connection and some of the street machines and muscle cars i have owned over the last 24 years. i also do not have the means or knoewledge to show pictures. i hate to go to maxton and not know if i am going to go into high gear with the 4l65 at wot. thanks for the opinions many of you have offered. what if i got up to about full speed but kept the accelerator off the floor, would that help? garrell.770

i went, i ran, i conquered
i have not visited for a while, been real busy for a retired guy and i am also experiencing some scary health problems. i have had enough of those in my life, but i am very blessed to still be hotroddin. if any of you remember i was going to maxton airfield, nc. in sept. to landspeed race on the maxton mile. to make a long storey shorter, i made three run on sept.24, starting at 123.4 mph and the last being 125.6 mph. i did this just to prove that i could as part of my ongoing recovery from a heart attack followed by three strokes. i was told at the speed slip pickup area that i was only less than one mph from breaking the track record of a/pp which was two classes up from me. i did not know of anything else i could do to my 5340 lb. ss silverado truck to go any faster. i also found out you could take a chance and move up in class but not down. anyway i was not going back to the oct. meet, which would be the last maxton mile event ever held as the ecta is moving to wilmington, ohio next spring. then on sunday before the weekend of the meet my 14 year old grandson says "paw paw, i do not have a ballgame next weekend and why don't you go back to the maxton mile next weekend and break that record. after scurrying and scrambling to make all of the necessary arrangements i went back and after two runs on saturday and one last try at 8:15 am. on sunday I DID IT. i ran 127.999 mph due to some old time hot rod ingenuity. it set the new track record to be held forever in a/pp. there are a lot of faster classes and records but none of them could be anymore satisfying than mine. i did not realize the list of cars I HAVE OWNED was to be total and not current. due to my memory loss my brother has been helping me make a list of all of my cars and fortunately i made pictures of most of them. i will list them another time since i have gone long. garrell.770
