Little questions about the BB

I have some questions about some of the idiosyncrasies of the behaviors of several shortcuts and features on the site.

1) Sometimes there will be a discrepancy between the field that says "Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread", which names the members, and the line next to it which gives the breakdown of members and guests. I have see the number of members be greater than the amount of named members.
Like it will say 4 members and 2 guests, but only have 3 of the members named.
Who is the invisible member, and will you have to kill me if you tell me?

2) Sometimes when I'm looking at the "Whos Online" list. I will see a members name and it will say only "Viewing Thread", or "Viewing Forum" but not identify the thread.
Not really a big deal to a normal person, but to a suspicious paranoid like me, it preys upon my already heavily burdened mind...

3)How come when I click on certain members profiles, I get returned to teh main index? 302/z28 is one that I know does it every time. For me anyway. (I don't blame him if he doesn't want me to see it)

4) Where did the complete members list go? I know access to it was deactivated about the time of the GMG weirdness. Will it come back? Should I not ask this question?

Just wondering,
Later, mikey

Look out...........Big brother is watching............

Im like you Mike, I like to look around and see who is doing what. Is that being paranoid, or just nosey?

I think that the members move around the forums so much, that the counters cant keep up.

I always wondered too, does it show you on the board, just when you are in the HR.com site, or whenever you are online.......?

What erked me was, Jon disabled the "Top Posters" list, just before I passed Willys36 to become #1............If he reinstates it after Henry Highrise passes me, I will really be PO'd........................

I know, I was keeping an eye on that members list. It was fun to see which were the top 10.
You better start hanging out in the intro forum if you want to keep HH back a bit.

So then the members list is disabled for everyone, and not just me? I thought I was being punished.

I just found the whos online list a few weeks back. It is handy to see where everyone is. I have seen that a large concentration of members usually means something juicy is going on or a troll is getting thrashed. Morbid curiosity makes me want to rubberneck too.

Actually my paranoia makes the dump my first stop here.
My name not being in it means I was able to follow the rules for 1 more day

Mikey

WOW, I got the top 3 posters of all time on MY little thread, and only poncho has managed to make some attempt at an answer before hijacking it into a battle of the thread count titans Thanks, poncho

I wouldn't want to be number 2 henry, if I was that close I'd be making up all kinds of posts and threads. J/K

It ain't the count, it's the content. I'm not in the running so I can say whatever I want

Nice GIF willys36. Very hypnotic I made it my screensaver of the week. Looks great on my 19" flatscreen. Scared my dog too. I'm honored you stopped by. Really

So is this your way of telling me I shouldn't know these things? I understand, I'd only abuse the knowledge anyway.

But I'll play along and not give up the hope that my questions will eventualy be answered, because like poncho, I am used to being a loser too.

Further behind than last place, but not really caring, because I still have hope,
Mikey

I will try to answer number 4. I think I remember Jon explaining that about the time the GMG stuff got to going on our servers were loaded pretty good and that he removed some stuff such as the member list etc. to gain a little more room and speed on the server. I may be wrong on this but I think I remember him saying something about it. And as far as the numbers thing goes...its kinda nice, I will admit that...but the burrito lady will not give us any free burritos because of it.

--Yes, the memberslist is a server resource hog, so it's been shut off. In the past couple of months, we upgraded the server hardware (you might have noticed we haven't had any downtime or slow-times since). However, I'd like to keep it off still. Maybe in the future, but most likely not, it's too resource-intensive. Another reason (but not the main one) is that I want to discourage too much attention from being placed on the post numbers.

Top 10 Posters are:

poncho62 -- 8674
Henry Highris -- 8219
willys36@aol.com -- 7722
docvette -- 5330
302/Z28 -- 4880
BOBCRMAN@aol.com -- 4442
Jon -- 3987
home brew -- 3929
4 Jaw Chuck -- 3900
Doublevision -- 3727

--Some members are "invisible" on the Who's Online list, by their choice. They are counted numerically, but their usernames do not appear. AFAIK, this is a moderator-only option.

--The Who's Online list sometimes has to "guess" as to the location of a person, which is why it sometimes won't give the exact thread location. Or, the person may be reading a private thread in the Moderator forum, and the title of the thread won't be printed.

--The member profile thing is a bug: a known, reproducible error. Certain members have certain characters in their usernames that are causing the error (like a forward slash). This will be fixed in the next software upgrade (too small of a bug to justify an upgrade on its own).
