The races were great. Met up with Badrat (Bill), he comes down every year and is a blast to hang out with. We had pulled pork sammiches, Chips and his homemade salsa that is absolutely, no B.S., some of the best I have ever ate...and you guys that posted in the BBQ thread we had a while back, you can take that salsa to the bank! I got the leftover salsa and also some hatch chilies, it didn't last long, I made taco salad just so I would have a good reason to eat the rest of it. Delicious!
Famoso was crammed packed full of cars. last year the weather wasn't great, I parked right behind the grandstands, best seat in the house. About 100 show cars. This year, fo git about it! Probably 500-600 show cars, vendor lanes were full of cars, swap meet was full of cars, they parked them everywhere. Had to be at least 60,000 people there. 33 Funny cars, 25 Top Fuel or so I heard, I think they took 400 entries for all fields and cut it off. there were 120 nitro burners in total for racing and the cackle fest. The cackle fest had 47 cars, in the twilight/dark, an awesome display with the cars cackling and the fire shooting out the pipes. It was an off weekend for the NHRA big boys, Force, Neff, Pulde, Capps, a few others were there. Oh yeah, Bill Parten too.
If you ever get a chance to get to this history packed race track, jump at it! The March Meet this year has been extended to 4 days, too many cars, too little time. It would have taken a 2X4 to wipe the grin off my face this year, on the way home I was bushed but it was a good tiredness. These old timers won't be around forever, one of them was 73 years old and still racing! Dan
